New York State Capital:
Albany is the jewel in New York's crown. The City, first settled by the Dutch in 1624, was given its charter in 1686 by Governor Thomas Dongan and became Capital of the State of New York in 1797. For the first time visitor, it is highly recommended that you start your tour of Albany at the Visitor's Center located at 25 Quackenbush Square on Broadway. The Henry Hudson Planetarium at the Center has wonderful shows to introduce you to the City's history and attractions.
New York State Flower:
The New York State flower is the rose. The rose was made the State flower in 1955. Roses have been appreciated throughout the centuries and are considered one of the most popular and widely cultivated flowers in the world today, with over 150 species and more than 20,000 hybrids available.
New York's largest lake in Oneida measures 79.8 square miles.
The United States Capital:
The first capital of the United States of America was New York City. In 1789 George Washington took his oath as president on the balcony at Federal Hall.
The Statue of Liberty:
The Statue of Liberty, one of the most famous landmarks in the United States, stands at the entrance to New York Harbor. A gift from the people of France in 1884, the Statue of Liberty is regarded as a symbol of the United States and an expression of freedom and opportunity.

The statue depicts liberty as a woman draped in flowing robes and carrying a lighted torch. She wears a crown of seven spikes that represent the seven seas and seven continents. In her left arm, she cradles a tablet bearing the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
The Niagra Reservation:
Niagara Falls State Park is located in the City of Niagara Falls, New York in Niagara County. The park contains the American Falls, the Bridal Veil Falls, and part of the Horseshoe Falls

Niagara Falls State Park is the oldest state park in the United States. In 1885, the Niagara appropriations bill was signed into law, creating the Niagara Reservation.

The park also overlooks the Niagara Gorge and allows access to the Maid of the Mist tour boats, Cave of the Winds, flight of the angels, water jet rapids and other attractions of Niagara Falls.
Adirondack Park:
The Adirondack Park was created in 1892 by the State of New York amid concerns for the water and timber resources of the region. Today the Park is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States, greater in size than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier, and Grand Canyon National Park combined.

The boundary of the Park encompasses approximately 6 million acres, nearly half of which belongs to all the people of New York State and is constitutionally protected to remain “forever wild” forest preserve. The remaining half of the Park is private land which includes settlements, farms, timber lands, businesses, homes, and camps.
New York's highest waterfall is not the Niagra Falls. New York's highest waterfall is the 215 foot Taughannock.
New York has over 70,000 miles of rivers and streams.
